Jewellery has been around just about so long as homo sapiens. Though some were potentially worn as decorations, others could have been worn to ward off hazards, malicious spirits or sickness. Gold was employed due to its warm, glowing color and its ease to work, being relatively soft and plastic.

In the Middle Ages, styles and earnings levels rather daunted the wearing of most jewellery. In this period rings were frequently worn by each social class.
